You’ve built a great looking fence, but in a few years you notice that the bottom of the fence boards have begun rotting out. What can you do?
By breaking wood to earth contact and installing a strip of pressure treated wood to the bottom of your fence, you can stop your fence from rotting
First, use a Sawzall or skillsaw to remove the rotting portions of the fence. Make sure you cut high enough to remove all evidence of wood rot. Next, measure and cut a piece of Pressure Treated wood horizontally below the new fence line. Use either a 2×4 or 2×6 Pressure Treated board depending on how much of the old fence you had to remove. This new bottom board will protect the rest of your fence from rot, and from damage which can occur when using a string trimmer
